Cardiff Central Region – 20th November 2018: Welsh Government Economy Secretary, Ken Skates visited Next Generation Data (NGD) yesterday, Europe’s largest data centre.
The Minister’s visit coincided with NGD’s latest expansion phase which has followed the continuing strong customer demand for additional space and services. This year alone NGD has invested over £40 Million into the further development of its world class facility which now extends to the construction of additional data centre halls on the top floor of its vast 750,000 sq ft building.

Justin Jenkins, NGD’s Managing Director, said: “NGD has always benefited from the support of the Welsh Government right from the start of our business 10 years ago when we acquired our current site, a former semiconductor plant. Over the years NGD has successfully transformed the facility into Europe’s largest data centre which has attracted some of the world’s largest companies into the region.”
Added Justin Jenkins: “At the same time, we have provided direct employment as well as regular work for hundreds of contractors while also serving the IT needs of a growing number of fast growing local businesses.”
Since opening its multimillion pound data centre NGD has already notched up over 32MW of built space and remains Europe’s largest data centre campus. In 2016 the company secured multimillion pound funding from Infravia Capital Partners to accelerate expansion. The highly secure facility features a vast 180 MW renewably sourced power capacity and multiple high speed low latency fibre network connections. NGD is suited to meeting the needs of global digital companies and those of UK national and regional organisations.
