Cardiff Capital Region: NGD, Europe’s largest mega data centre operator, will be using Cloud Expo Europe in London to showcase a number of high performance Public and Hybrid Cloud solutions.

Many cloud providers, including some of the largest public cloud organisations have chosen NGD as the home for their IT Infrastructure. These are typically challenging, large scale engineering projects which the NGD team has successfully completed to the highest standards. All are built to ensure highly secure environments together with bespoke power, cooling and a wide choice of low latency connectivity options.

Highlights from NGD at Cloud Expo will include:

  • Cloud Gateway for Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute

NGD Cloud Gateway ensures cost-effective dedicated private network connections into Microsoft Azure are quickly established between NGD’s facilities and customers’ on-premises locations or colocation data centres.

“Our Cloud Gateway is proving popular with several of large systems integrator, service provider and enterprise customers,” said Nick Razey, NGD’s CEO. “In addition, with Hybrid Cloud applications especially high on their agendas having access to our highly secure low latency connections and predictable performance are top priorities.”

Available now, customers can order virtual cross-connections to the Microsoft Cloud using Layer 2 connections which can be scaled up to 10 Gbps to meet immediate and future capacity requirements with provisioning of multiple connections as necessary.

  • Connecting Hybrid Cloud Environments

NGD is already meeting increasing demand from customers for Hybrid Cloud environments, creating bespoke combinations of Private and Public Cloud services. NGD is uniquely placed to be able to support these types of solutions, ensuring the fastest and most secure links between the two types of cloud, effectively creating a single environment. An NGD Hybrid Cloud reduces costs, complexity and time to market for cloud migrations. The ability to directly connect to Public Cloud providers at NGD delivers major performance benefits as well as dramatic cost savings.

Using NGD to host private cloud infrastructure allows customers to develop new Hybrid Cloud models with super low latency.  This can include application services, production management, data backup and recovery services as well as infrastructure services.

Commenting on the launch of NGD Cloud Gateway, Clive Longbottom, Head of Research at analyst firm Quocirca said: “As organisations are beginning to discover, the future is hybrid cloud.  With different workloads requiring different platform capabilities, more organisations will be looking to specialised providers in which to house or run certain workloads, such as HPC.  However, such systems still need to be able to interoperate with the rest of the world – yet being at the mercy of the public internet is not a good idea.  The use of specialised and dedicated interconnects, such as Azure ExpressRoute, provide the means to create the required optimised overall platform.”

About NGD

Located in the Cardiff Capital Region, NGD is a purpose-built carrier-neutral Tier 3 facility offering 750,000 sq feet (gross internal area) of highly secure and cost-effective space housing up to 22,000 racks. These can be arranged into self-contained and colocation data halls of various sizes all with independent services, resilient power and cooling systems. NGD environmentally-friendly high level technology infrastructure has been designed to meet and exceed the ever increasing demand for more computing power. Among its many features are a high capacity 180 MVA power supply direct from the super grid and sourced from 100 per cent renewable energy; and a variety of on-site high-speed, low latency carrier interconnects.
