NEXT GENERATION DATA, ONE OF EUROPE'S BIGGEST DATA CENTRES, WINS FIRST MAJOR CUSTOMERS

Next Generation Data, the giant data centre building in Newport, South Wales, is now open for business following completion of the essential phase of a £200 million project announced last year to convert and upgrade the former LG Electronics semiconductor plant.
Next Generation Data Ltd, the owner and operator of the new data centre, has been supported by the Welsh Assembly Government throughout the construction and refurbishment project and is now making available a wide range of wholesale space-only contracts to large organisations. Already long term contracts have been agreed with several blue chip companies and these will begin moving their extensive data centre IT operations into the Next Generation Data Centre early next year.
"In a very tough economic climate we are delighted to have come through on time and on budget with the first critical phase of this extensive project," said Simon Taylor, Chairman and Co-founder of Next Generation Data Ltd "We have always enjoyed a strong and very supportive relationship with the Assembly Government for which we are very appreciative. Without it a major project like this just would not be possible.”
The Assembly Government Minister for the Economy and Transport, Ieuan Wyn Jones, described the investment by Next Generation Data Ltd to create one of the largest and best equipped date centres in Europe as of strategic importance.
"This investment is a critically important addition to the IT and telecoms infrastructure in Wales which can not only benefit local companies but also has the potential to make Wales a particularly attractive location for businesses in the UK and further a field. It's good news to hear that a number of blue chip companies will be moving into the data centre next year which clearly illustrates the demand for such a facility and I am pleased the Assembly Government has helped facilitate this development.”
Next Generation Data is designed to cater for all current and future computing requirements as befits a true next generation data centre. UK and overseas organisations with several older data centre sites that have become too small or constrained by lack of power now have a great opportunity to move to Wales and save money by consolidating all their operations under the vast roof of the Next Generation Data Centre.
The Next Generation Data Centre assures a highly secure environment through a range of measures including triple-skinned walls, bomb proof glass, prison grade perimeter fencing, infra-red detection, biometric recognition and ex-special forces security guards.
The company is currently undergoing ISO 14001 Environmental Certification and is committed to a range of green initiatives. Sustainable materials have been widely used in the construction of the data centre facility.
